One of my most asked question is about photography on my site and instagram. So I'm here to answer some camera questions as well as let you know the photo apps that are a must for everyone.
Let's address the first question about who takes my photos and what camera I use. I take all the photos not of myself and my husband or my mom take all my blog photos. I actually love that I do my own photos because it has allowed me to take up another hobby, photography and photo editing. Once I started blogging I knew I wanted to buy a nice camera. I use a Canon 7D. I have 3 different lens that I rotate out a 35 mm, 50 mm, and a 24-70 mm lens. My 24-70 is my bread and butter as far as shooting goes, I can use it for everything. I use my 50 mm for close up shots of Leo and my food shots, and I use my 35 mm for fashion blog photos. I think my favorite lens is the 35 mm, but owning 3 different lens can be quite spendy so if you are looking to get into photography the 24-70 mm lens is a great one to start.
As for editing I use lightroom, I would say 70% of my photos on instagram are shot on my canon camera then I edit using lightroom. But 30% are shot on my iPhone and I will go over my favorite photo apps for that later.
Here are a few examples of the different lens I use and how they shoot.

These 2 images below are shot using the 24-70mm lens. What I love about this lens is you can easily get a wider shot like us swinging Leo and then moments later you can zoom in and get a close up shot of us tying Leo's shoes. I like using it when I personally shoot families or when I shoot children. (I know I will get questions about this, yes I do some photography for friends I am not looking to start a full blown business but I love doing it occasionally so if you're interested you can message me.) Anyways back to what I was saying I can zoom in and out and get all types of shots without changing the lens on my camera, which can be a timely manner and the moment could quickly pass.
Let's talk photo apps!
1, Photoshop Express- Easy and simple editing app that I use when shooting on my iPhone. I love that I can play with the exposure, shadows, and colors all so quickly. It is much more user friendly than the iPhone photo editing system they have and you get a way better result.
2. Film Born- When I want to edit a photo a bit more (or have more time) I will pop it into film born and use that for editing. I love the filters it puts on the photos and again is super easy to use.
3. Facetune- Say what you want about face tune but it can be helpful for certain things. Let me explain how I use it. These 2 photos below were shot on my iPhone. I wish I had the exact same photo for comparison but I deleted the photos. When one thinks of facetune you think oh you use it to make yourself look skinnier. Well the answer is no because I can immediately tell if people have used facetune in photos. You can see the distortion to the photo as well as the lines not all matching. So I never use this app for that but what I do use is the teeth whitening feature. And I don't use to whiten my teeth I use it to whiten my background. See the difference in the white between the 2 photos? I also use the patch tool to fix the discolored areas on the garage door. I love this app especially when you want to make a cream color look more crisp white.

4. Rhonna- I use this app to write on my photos. I believe this is one you have to pay for but I use it so often for my blog I don't mind the one time fee. I also have photoshop but I think this is way more user friendly and not at all overwhelming like photoshop is to me when trying to use it for writing on my photos.
5. Planoly- So when I am feeling really motivated I try and pre plan my instagram posts using this app. Or when I don't know how a photo will look on my instagram feed I will put a few photos in this to see how it would look on my feed. As you can see you see the "U" on the photo with me and a camera that means unscheduled so I am just testing those out. Personally I don't like all the close ups in a row. So I think I will post a wider shot with more background first then post this close up shot of me and the camera. I wish I spent more time trying to make my instagram look pretty and all planned out but I just don't have the time. But when I do I love popping the photos into this app.
If you have any photo app you love please share with me. I hope everyone is enjoying their spring break, I have been doing some spring cleaning this week. I tackled the garage on Monday and have been working on the closets in this house this week, Jay has a goodwill run in his future. I love how good spring cleaning feels!! If only I could focus on trying to clean out the 8000+ photos on my phone.
I hope you have a good rest of your week. We will see you back here on Friday!
Cheers,
Jess
