Leo is a big sensory guy, he loves his sensory bin. We currently have a beans with dinosaur sensory bin happening right now. I change the theme out every month, but I think the dinosaurs might last 6 weeks. But that activity only lasts so long. So the last few weeks we have been seeking out new ideas. I am sharing with you the top 3 activities that have been keeping us busy and ones that Leo absolutely loves. So I'm here to share them with you!
Before we dive into activities let's talk about this stool we got for Leo for his Birthday. This has been a big game changer in the kitchen. He is my little helper from morning to night. And it makes hand washing so much easier. There are lots of different models online but you can check out our exact model HERE!
Oobleck and Slime
When your feeling adventurous and not worried about your kitchen getting dirty I highly recommend making oobleck or slime. We have made both and I think I personally I had more fun making the oobleck. I don't know how played longer in it Leo or Jay and I. I'm sharing the recipes we used that have seemed to work for us.
Oobleck
Ingredients
As for slime we have had the best luck using this recipe.
Fluffy Slime (I took this from a pinterest website)
Ingredients
1. Pour a ½ cup of hot water into a small bowl and mix in ½ tbsp. Borax. Stir until the Borax is dissolved. Set this bowl aside.
2. In a measuring cup, add a drop or two of food coloring to a ½ c. of white school glue. Mix well to combine the color.
3. Pour the colored glue into a large mixing bowl.
4. Add ¼ c. water to the mixing bowl with the glue and stir lightly for a few seconds. Do not worry about combining the ingredients completely.
5. Pour in 2 tbsp. of contact lens cleaning solution into the bowl with the glue and water.
6. Roughly measure 3 cups of shaving cream, and add it to the bowl with the glue mixture.
7. Add 2 tbsp. Of the Borax and water mixture to the mixing bowl that contains the shaving cream and glue mixture. Stir carefully with a spatula to combine all of the ingredients and color the slime.
8. Slowly add in more Borax mixture a ½ tbsp. At a time until the slime no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl or your hand when you touch it. It took us roughly 3 ½ tablespoons of Borax mixture to get the right consistency.
9. Store your Shaving Cream Fluffy Slime in an airtight container.

Colored Rice
For those Moms who aren't quite ready for the mess of slime I have another fun idea for you. Colored rice. We first started out coloring our rice. All we did was put some white rice in a tupperware container and then I let Leo put in the food coloring drops and shake shake shake. We ended up doing 3 different batches of different colors so we could add some variety in our rice but you could easily just do one color.
We have used the rice for a few fun things. We have filled in puzzles (we are currently learning our shapes) so this has been a good help for learning those. We also just put it on a cookie sheet and I let his drive his cars all around. The other activity we use it for is we set out a bunch of different size of bowls and different kitchen utensils so he can scoop it from bowl to bowl. As you can see for all these activities I have a blanket out on the ground. This makes sure it keeps the mess in one place.

ICE ICE BABY
So snow was very popular in our house the few days we got some. I would bring some in and let him drive his cars around in it in a tupperware. Then we moved on to ice. Then this last week I saw something online where they transferred ice into water. I decided to make it a little more fun for him and add 4 different colored water options. We used a slotted spoon so he could move the ice from one bowl to another if he wanted to. If you are working on colors you can direct your child to put a scoop into the blue bowl. Or transfer the ice from the red bowl into the green bowl. This is also a great way for your child to learn directions.
Well that is all I have for you this week! I am currently writing this while watching the bachelor after the final rose and let's face it I can't really focus due to all this drama. So if you see some spelling and grammar errors I blame it on Arie. But the one positive thing of this whole deal is Becca is the bachelorette and I absolutely LOVE her!!!
Cheers,
Jess
