I surprised Leo this year with a new Christmas "dino" room. To say he was thrilled was an understatement. I made most everything and I wanted to show you how easy it is to swap out a few things in your kids room to get them in the Christmas spirit. So buckle up my DIY friends and check out how to make a wreath and a diorama for your kiddos and a few other little touches that will transform their room for Christmas.
Dino Wreath
First off you can make a similar wreath with whatever your kids are into, horses, cars, barbies (ok that might be weird) but you get the idea. I ordered some dinos from amazon (but remembered the dollar store had some after I did this dang it) and some silver spray paint and a plain wreath. I simply spray painted them while he was at school and then hot glued them to a plain wreath. I also added in some small dinos (which I stole from his room) and put some little tree ornaments on their backs like they were carrying them.
Bing Bang Boom Done! This took me a few hours only because I had to let the dinos dry outside and flip them over and paint the other side. Once they were dried and I actually started hot gluing them on the wreath it took me a total of 5 minutes to make the entire wreath.
Dino Christmas Diorama
So I used the left over dinos and sprayed them gold. Then I went to hobby lobby and got some bottle brush trees and some little Christmas lights and the idea was born. This is probably Leo's favorite part of his room. I love the look of spray painting them it makes them all look uniform.
Bedroom
I captured showing Leo his room on video. He stopped and looked at every single detail. I love how attention to detail he is. He was so excited and he has shown everyone that has walked into our house his room. I love doing stuff for him especially when he seems so excited about it. So a few things I did was swapped out was his blanket. I actually kept his down comforter under this and just put this blanket over. I think I will keep this blanket on his bed all winter and change it back to his "normal" bedding in March. It helps justify the $40 bedding if he will use it for a few months.
I also surprised him with new Christmas pajamas from Gap, snow globe, and a stuffed animal. And put out some of his favorite dinosaur books we already owned.
I think the highlight of his new room is the snow globe for both kids. Monroe is just enamored with it and Leo loves turning the music on for her. It is really sweet seeing them finally interacting. I got it at Hobby Lobby for like $15 so it wasn't a big splurge and I know they both will get excited for it next year when it comes back out.
Overall I think I spent about $100 on this room swap maybe even a little less and the amount of joy it has brought to this little boy is worth every single penny. I highly recommend doing something a little special for your children. It doesn't have to be an entire room but maybe getting them a little tree and letting them pick out the ornaments, doing a wreath for them, or even just getting them a snow globe.
I have been on a blogging kick lately.... who am I. I think I'll be sharing a few more things with you on the Christmas front. We revamped our outdoor decor and I found some cool things so I can't wait to show you how it all turned out. We are headed out of town for Thanksgiving.... please pray for us flying with Monroe for the first time. Agh she is a handful and I'm just hoping we survive. I mean we have no choice I more feel bad for the people on the plane with us.
Cheers (i'll need it)
