Last week Jess posted about using dish soap to wash your jewelry….well, I have another great use for dish soap. The other day I used it to wash my hair….yup dish soap turns out to be a pretty great shampoo substitute.
The last month or so I have felt like my hair has been just blah, I figured it may be build up from all my hair products. In the past I have used pricy shampoos for an occasional deep clean so I started looking around online for the best brand. Luckily I came across quite a few articles suggesting that dish soap can provide the same deep clean as those expensive shampoos. Why has everyone been keeping this a secret for so long?!
I chose Dawn dish soap. For no real logical reason or anything. I just remembered seeing commercials where they use dawn to clean animals after oil spills so I thought if it was okay on animals hair then it couldn’t be so bad for mine. So I gave it a try and was super happy with the results. My hair felt suuuppper clean AND it is now sooooo soft! I will defiantly be doing this on a monthly bases now and will never waste my money on those over priced shampoos.
Tips for washing your hair with dish soap:
Use about half the amount you would regular shampoo (this is more concentrated so less is needed)
Scrub the heck out of your scalp as well as the entire length of hair
Rinse with cold water
When your hair has a really weird texture, don’t freak
Use a hair mask or a hydrating conditioner and let sit on hair for a couple minutes before rinsing with cold water
Happy washing,
Ang
