I REFUSE to make two separate meals at our house. What we eat is what Leo eats or some variation of that. I have talked to many moms who go to great measures to make different meals. That wasn't happening at our house. I made a lot of purees when Leo was little but now that he is a big boy and he can eat what we are eating. So this blog post is laying out a few different meals you can make for your kiddos. When we eat at home the biggest thing I try to do is make sure they aren't processed. I try to give him his food in it's whole state and in return when we eat out Leo then gets to enjoy mac and cheese, grilled cheese, french fries etc. But when we are home we try to keep his meals balanced, healthy, and try to expose him to different types of food.
Breakfast
Strawberry Greek Yogurt with Berries and Granola
Mini pancakes with one piece of turkey bacon and berries
Oatmeal with Berries
Mini pancakes with little smokeys and berries
Unfortunately Leo doesn't eat eggs for breakfast. I wish he did, so we struggle a bit for breakfast to find healthy options. We alternate between a few different things. Yogurt with berries and granola, pancakes with turkey bacon and fruit or oatmeal with fruit. We get the frozen pancakes at the grocery store and I just heat them up on the days he eats them. On the days he has oatmeal I usually make oatmeal for myself that way I don't have to make two breakfasts. He also loves turkey bacon and other breakfast meats so if I'm cooking them for myself I'll always give them to him.
Lunch
Avocado banana mash with cucumbers and cinnamon baked apples
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich with cucumbers and blueberries
Avocado banana mash with dino chicken nugget and whole grain fish crackers
Leo is obsessed with avocado banana mash with cinnamon, it's healthy and so quick easy to make. It used to be enough for him but now that he is super active he tends to be more hungry. So I add in some fruit, his favorite fruit is baked apples with cinnamon and blueberries. He also is a big cucumber fan so I often cut those up. When he seems more hungry I'll add in some meat like these Dino nuggets. He also is a big fan of these whole wheat fish crackers. We tend to eat lunches out pretty often so we don't have a lot of lunch food at our house, but I always make sure we have plenty of bananas and avocados.
Dinner
Pulled pork with rosemary potatoes, broccoli, and sliced tomatoes
Pepperoni pizza with sliced tomato, cucumbers, and blueberries
Chicken apple sausages with sauted zucchini and grapes
Dinner is a variation between kids items and what we eat. As you can see in the pictures above he mostly eats what we eat but if something is too spicy or he doesn't like it that when we turn to things like sauted zucchini, sausages, and other veggies. I also try not to do much cheese at home. Kids food doesn't always have to be full cheese and other unhealthy options. Because we eat salads a lot at dinner time so I just make sure I chop up some extra vegetables for Leo.
If you are looking for more food options for your little ones check out my girlfriend's instagram account called @whatsfordinnerbaby, that is where I go to get inspiration for Leo's meals.
I will be headed out of town for a little girls trip and we are also in the process of packing up our house and moving into our new one. So I might be a little slow on the blog posts in the coming weeks. I can't wait to show you some before and afters of our new house and our remodel! Until then I'll be posting pictures on my instagram account @champagneandshimmer
Cheers,
Jess
