Keeping with the house guest posts we have been doing the last couple weeks, I wanted to touch on guest room decor a little. I have to admit that our guest rooms consisted of just a mattress and a dresser for over a year! I finally decided to tackle the project and cozy it up a bit. Once I got going I found it to be super simple.
Before this room consisted of just the bed and bedding (sans the throw pillows) and the dresser you can see in the mirror. Since I had a pretty neutral starting point I decided to have a little fun with textures and shapes. Through out most of my house I keep to neutral colors and pretty simple decor, which I like for my every day rooms. Since I don’t go in to the guest rooms that much it was fun to get out of my comfort zone a little and jazz things up.
Everything you see came from Walmart or Target which kept the cost low. I came across this little rug at Walmart and fell in love with it, which inspired me to go with a black and white theme. I love the contrast of the black and white with the pop of color on the walls. The little side table and chair came from Target, a little bit of an investment but both items are very versatile and can be used in other rooms in the future. So then it just took some throw pillows, a decorative blanket and some little personal touches to really warm the room up.
The lamps I had sitting in a good will pile if you can believe it! They had an older style shade and looked really outdated to me. I ended up just grabbing new lamp shades from Target and that changed the entire look and made it so they fit perfectly in to this room.
So in just a few hours and with a few new items I was able to totally transform our guest room. I can’t believe it took me so long to actually just do it!
Cheers,
Ang
