Oh bad habits we all have them. As another year ticks by I am trying my best to rid my life of bad habits. I am highlighting 5 habits that need to go out the door from snoozing your alarm clock, setting timers on your social media, to anxiety and what anxiety I struggle with. Here are my 5 habits I can hopefully cut out.
SQUANDERING TIME-
This is the worst thing for me. I can't begin tell you countless hours in college I spent playing diner dash or deep diving onto facebook. I have always been the one that starts a project like cleaning out a closet then goes down a rabbit hole of trying on every outfit and piece of jewelry I own, wasting time. This also means social media. So 6 months ago I created a time limit on my phone for social media as well as setting a downtime on my phone from 8:30pm- 7am. So when using my phone at night it makes me think twice. But I am going to actually cut down my social media limits even more and increase my downtime. I know this time with my kids and young family isn't going to last forever so why waste my time scrolling through instagram.

SNOOZE BUTTON-
I am the worst at this, Jay gets so annoyed he says if you just set your alarm to the final time you could sleep longer. I know he is right. My alarm often goes off and I reset it for another 15 minutes. So my goal is just to get up and get going. Proud today I popped up when my alarm went off.

BEING TOO LOYAL-
Has anyone ever done that ennegram tests? I am a 6 which is the loyalist. I think it is a good trait but as I've gotten older I've been burned a few more times and I realize I can't always trust in good faith or that people have the best intentions. I have held onto friendships or mourned the loss of friendships for too long all because I felt a since of loyalty when clearly they didn't. I think we should give people second chances, help them through difficult times, but at some point you can't always be the person carrying the relationship. Remember you are the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with, so chose those people wisely and let the other ones go. I am lucky enough to have found more than 5 people to surround myself with and I am so thankful and inspired by the group of women I get to spend my time with.

UNINTENTIONAL SHOPPING-
This month of no shopping has been really great for me. It has made me think of my amazon purchases and all shopping more intentionally. I would love to carry that out in my everyday living. Instead of impulsively buying something we "NEED" from amazon. 99% of the time we don't NEED it and we can do without. Same goes with clothes. I often times buy things just to buy them and I don't even love them. So I hope I can keep shopping intentionally.

STOP WORRYING ABOUT THINGS OUTSIDE YOUR CONTROL-
Ha! I'd love to tell you I am easily able to leave this behind and not feel anxious but that isn't the case. What I have learned is that everyone has anxiety really in some aspect of their lives, from fear of heights, to failing or being a perfectionist, or my personal fear... the fear of germs. I sometime feel caged that we are going to constantly be sick. Well the fact is this winter we have been sick the entire time. What I keep trying to remind myself is that there are an infinite amount of things I can worry about but there are only a finite amount of things I can control. You can't control what will happen, when you'll get sick, how other people treat you etc, but what you can do is be in control of how things affect you and how you react to things.
For example we are going to Disneyland in May and I just know that we will get fevers or pick something up there, I can't control that. What I can control is having everyone wash their hands, packing hand sanitizers and wipes, and then bringing meds so that if they do get sick we can treat it. Changing my thinking of what I CAN be in control of really does make the things not in my control seem better.

Yesterday I celebrated my 34th birthday in the most perfect way with my little family and I hope to keep these 5 habits behind me... especially the things I can not control. That is probably my biggest challenge.
Cheers,
Jess
