Toasted wholegrain bread makes for a great canvas for all sorts of toppings, but jiffy peanut butter, jam and cream cheese aren’t so healthy. Put down the empty calories and processed sugars, and swap them for some healthier alternatives. I came up with six toast ideas that are healthy, yummy, and will fuel you for the day. I often have trouble regulating my sugar after a workout and I was searching for the perfect post workout snack. I needed a snack that had a good balance of protein, healthy fats, carbs and sugar. I knew that using peanut butter, butter, and cream cheese wasn’t a healthy option so I came up with some other bases that are made up of healthy fats and protein. I used mashed up avocado, hummus, almond butter and greek yogurt and topped them with different fruits and veggies.
I have a hard time picking a favorite, but the mashed avocado with a fried egg was pretty delicious. And the ricotta cheese with apples tasted like dessert. All in all you can’t go wrong with all of these, you might even be able to get your kids to try some of these healthy alternatives.
