I had a few issues with my pregnancy with Leo that didn't allow me to workout as much as I wanted to and I really had to watch my heart rate with that pregnancy. Thankfully, this pregnancy I don't have the same issues so I've been able to work out a lot more. Although week 8-14 I had to take off cause I was so miserable with all day sickness. I was able to continue all my workout classes up until 8.5 weeks and I was having some of the best workouts I have had in years. Anyways, after my little month break I have been able to continue to workout at the gym 2 days a week and at home 2 additional days. So today I am going over my "go to" workouts. Since I only get to the gym twice a week I like to do more "complex" workouts vs working just my arms or just my legs. You don't have to be pregnant to do these obviously as I continue them when I'm not pregnant. I just increase the weight and decrease rest time in between when I am not pregnant..... oh and usually add in burpees and box jumps! Dare I say it.... I miss burpees.
When I worked out with a trainer in Wisconsin he got me turned on to barbell complex workouts. and This week I know I will only be able to get the gym one day so I will knock out a good barbell complex workout that will work my entire body. Right now because I'm pregnant I just do all of this with a 45 lb bar. I also make sure I'm taking a few rests in between if I feel like I'm getting tired or too winded. I trust what my body is telling me and I definitely take more breaks when pregnant than I usually do.
Let's talk kettlebells. I bought a few different weights and I use them at home as my main weight option. I love how versatile kettlebells are and you can really get good workouts in with them. Plus in the summer I love being outside and do most of my workouts on the tennis court and the kettlebells live outside in my outdoor storage. Here are few of the workouts I am doing with kettlebells.
I also love a few apps for working out at home, Sworkit and the nike training app are amazing when I only have 10-15 minutes and don't really know what to do. Sworkit doesn't require weights so I often do this app at our local park when Leo plays on the toys. I am not a doctor and clearly shouldn't tell you how to workout. I have talked to my doctor about my workouts and I was able to continue working out at a similar level I was working out before. So be sure to consult your doctor before starting a new workout program.
I will say working out hard and doing HIIT training is probably the thing I miss most this pregnancy. If you would of asked me last pregnancy I would of hands down said champagne and wine, but with all the yummy summer mocktails I don't miss it as much. What I do miss are my HIIT classes at the gym. But soon enough I'll be right back at it.
I haven't talked much about this pregnancy or blog posted about pregnancy "must haves" like I tended to do last time. Before I have this baby (agh we still can't pick a name) I will be sure to do a blog post about "pregnancy items I can't live without" but for the most part once I got through the terrible morning sickness this pregnancy has been really really easy. So nothing too exciting to report on the blog front.
I hope you guys have a fun 4th of July plans. We are having a few friends over to celebrate so I will see you guys next week.... with tales to tell about potty training. Did I tell you I'm starting potty training on July 5th..... eeekkkk wish me luck!
Cheers,
Jess
