As important it is to unplug with your kids and devote time to them it is equally important to do this with your spouse and by yourself. After Leo goes to bed most nights we watch TV or a movie. That doesn't leave a lot of time for conversation. So twice a month we try to unplug in the evening and spend time together, this means good dinner conversation and usually a game of cribbage. But sometimes, after dinner we go upstairs and both spend some time reading.
Jay is a good sport when it comes to going along with things I want to do. We love using our TableTopics cards at dinner. I am surprised the things I've learned about Jay since we started using these cards. Our date nights are less going out to dinner and drinks and more about opening a bottle of wine and playing a game of cribbage. Which leads to good conversation sans TV or phones. I cherish our time together and highly suggest trying this at home with your spouse.
Here Are A Few Other Ideas You Can Do!
I wanted to highlight some things you can do alone as well. My Hubby works evenings and nights so probably 6 - 10 nights a month I'm alone for dinner and the evening hours. I still try to unplug during these times. One of my favorite things to do is call a friend and just had a good old fashion gab session. While I do this I will often organize or clean. I do my best cleaning while on the phone. I also will declutter or organize a closet and read. Another thing I've been working on is my son's baby book. It is important to unplug with your spouse but it is equally as important to unplug by yourself and enjoy some non tv or internet time.
I hope you can find some time in 2017 to unplug in all areas of your life!
Cheers,
Jess
*This post was fun cause I got to use some of my old engagement photos. I can't believe these are over 4 years old. I still love them as much as I did 4 years ago. It's crazy to look back at them and think about what our life was like back then. We didn't know where we would end up for Jay's residency, where his career would take us, and what our future family would look like. I loved this time in our life and I cherish all the memories we had when it was just to two of us. I wouldn't trade my life now Leo makes our world complete, but it is important to still give time to your relationship!
Cheers,
Jess
