As schools begin to be called off for fall and as we prepare to "hunker down" this winter I wanted to highlight some home school items and toys. I would say it is highly likely things will get worst over the winter and we will be spending just as much time at home than ever.... I'm sorry to break that news to you. So before things sell out here are a list of some educational and play items I suggest getting. I have a feeling alot of "homeschooling" items are going to go fast. While Leo's school (private) is choosing to go back Sept 1, we are opting to keep him at home at least for the first month, but probably going to keep him home all year.
Classroom Tables
My sister in law gave us a round table with little chairs in our playroom and we use it for art, playdoh, and all the things. With school being online and kids not going back it might be time to invest in an area for you to teach at that isn't your dining room table.
* Side note I have heard desks are sold out everywhere so this might be a good option for your home.

Math Manipulatives and Work Books
I am trying my hardest to stock up now on home schooling items. So far I have bought math manipulatives, work books, organization items for the class. Here are a few things I have purchased and plan on using.
Here are a few of the workbooks we are using.
Bounce House / Nugget Indoor Play Area
Picture yourself December it is cold, too cold to go outside, kids are going crazy indoors. What to do? Indoor bounce house sounds like a pretty good way to burn off some energy. Leo's little bestie has one of these at her house and the kids have a blast in it. We dont have place to put it in our house but I may get desperate and buy one this winter for the garage.
I somehow scored a Nugget during Christmas last year. It was an investment but has been one of our favorite toys. It is in our upstairs play room and it is uses as a fort, hot lava, race car track, boat, you name it they use it. Here is the nugget website. If you aren't willing to spend as much there are plenty of other foam items you could find. Here is another foam item that is pretty awesome from wayfair it is a foam rainbow... check this out!

Keep Them Busy Toys
We love these little color castles. We have had I think 3 different ones and I am going to buy another one for the kids for Christmas. They love coloring them and then you play with them for a few weeks and the best part is you get to TOSS them!! Some other items I love are a slime kit (I know I know but put it on a cookie sheet and it doesnt get as dirty), art set, dress up clothes, magnetic blocks, play kitchen, tunnel etc. These are toys that give the kids time to use their imagination and will last way longer than most toys we own.
Hope this helps giving you ideas of toys fore being indoors... I would suggest to you buying them now (storing them) instead of waiting till Christmas. I have a feeling by Christmas alot of the interactive and imaginary toys will be sold out. As we prepare to home school and spend even more time at home remember to give yourself grace. It is ok if you let the kids watch tv from 2-3 everyday cause you need a mental health break. It is ok to pour yourself a glass of wine at 4 pm because the day was hard. There is no rule book to homeschooling and staying home during a pandemic so cut yourself some slack!
Cheers,
Jess
