Time to clean out your closet ladies! This is actually one of my favorite things to do. I get such joy getting rid of clothes, mostly cause it opens up closet space for MORE CLOTHES! I always have a little donate bag going in my closet and I am constantly pulling stuff out and donating it. At the end of every season however I do a major overhaul and do some serious purging. With that being said I took some time to go over the items you should be donating or throwing away.
1. Things You Haven't Worn This Season I try and clean my closet out after every season.... summer, winter, spring, and fall. It is the perfect time to do it. Time to throw away those old sweaters and vests that you didn't wear all season long. Don't forget to look through your scarves I tend to hold onto scarves way too long. I found one that I haven't worn in at least 5 years that was still in my closet. I also go through my spring clothes at this time and see if there are dresses and shorts that I no longer like, no longer fit, or don't fit my style. |
2. Faded Black Clothing Take your black clothing out of the closet and into the light. If it's faded it's time to go. I pretty much know that my black tanks and black leggings that I wear and wash almost daily need to go. I make a point to try and buy new leggings and tanks every year. I get my tanks cheap from BP at Nordstroms. If you invest in good leggings they will last you longer than a year. If they are cheap ones chances are after a year it's time for them to go. |
3. Socks and Underwear
I recently did this as we are getting ready to move. We wear socks and underwear everyday yet it is the one item I personally never buy new ones of. I went on a sock and underwear draw purge and threw away tons of items..... Then I went Nordstrom and spent way too much money replacing them with new ones.
4. Trendy Items That You Never Wore
I'm so guilty of this. I see something on pinterest or instagram and think "I can totally pull it off" but the fact of the matter is I can't. So it sits in my closet and never gets worn. Time to throw it out any of those items, if you haven't worn them yet….. chances are you probably wont.
5. Old or Uncomfortable Shoes
Time to toss your old tennis shoes, I know you are attached but it's time to go. When I was pregnant I donated most of my uncomfortable shoes. It was the best donate decision I've made in awhile.
6. Clothes That Don't Fit
Most stuff in my closet doesn't fit so I won't be doing this anytime soon. But if you haven't worn a pair of jeans in a few years and you are hoping to chances are they are either out of style or in fact you probably never are going to wear them. Same goes will ill fitting tops, donate them.

7. Damaged Clothes
I feel like girls do this less than guys do, but if it has a hole it's time to go. I have a cream shirt that has a stain on it, I don't wear it and I know the stain won't come out yet I can't seem to throw it out. But after writing this post I am going to march into my closet and add it to the donate pile.

8. College Clothing
Novelty T-shirts from my sorority or other college memorabilia that I think I'll wear again as workout out clothes. The truth is I haven't over the past 8 years so why am I still holding on to them. I am super guilty of this. I get so attached to certain items. So instead of throwing them all away I allowed myself to keep 3 sorority or college clothing items.
9. Anything You Had in High School
Do you really still need that "Class of 2004" sweatshirt? Probably not.... toss it. One item I did hold onto was my old cheerleading uniforms and pom poms. I'm sorry over the years I have gotten so much use out of them as costumes. You don't have to throw everything away, obviously don't throw away your lettermans jackets and class rings.... but the puffy paint shirt you made can probably go.
BONUS POINTS- if you can spot Ang and I in this photo (hint look in the center)

10. Jewelry Drawer
Don't forget your jewelry box, I don't do this as often as I should. In fact I still have this Tiffany necklace in my jewelry box that I got when I was 17. I however don't think I can part with it, I mean it is engraved so I can't donate it right? There are a lot of items I guarantee that need to be donated. I notice that I have outgrown style wise most of my jewelry. Especially my earrings, I encourage you all to take a look in your jewelry box.
