So I have a million new years resolutions this year. Normally I struggle to find one or two but this year there seem to be a lot of changes I am wanting to make in my life. I plan on doing some blog posts about my changes in 2018. Although I won't be doing a blog post on deleting the candy crush app. Cause when the clock struck 10:30pm (my bedtime on NYE) that app was deleted . It was taking up time when I could be productive or playing with my child. It felt so good to delete something so addicting. Anyways, enough about candy crush. Let's talk about one of my new years resolutions. Keeping a closer eye on what products I am feeding my family and what products I should be buying that are organic. So lets talk abut the dirty dozen.
I made the switch to organic meat about a year ago. It is more expensive but I feel so much better feeding my family mostly organic meat. The next step in eating more thoughtfully is making the switch to organic produce. I know my husband rolls his eyes when I started buying organic meat so I know he is really going to roll his eyes when I start buying organic produce.
So lets talk about the dirty dozen and the clean 15.
So lets talk about the dirty dozen and the clean 15.
There are so much information about what we should and shouldn't be eating. I don't do diets or fad cleanse what I do do is try and eat healthy (most of the time), but don't get me wrong I have splurges often but when I'm cooking at home I try and eat clean. So building upon that I am making some changes in my eating and going more organic with my foods. It is so hard writing this post as my family are all farmers and we don't farm organic. But there is no secret in the research that eating pesticides isn't good for you.
Each year EWG (Environmental Working Group) release their updated list of the dirty dozen and the clean 15. This is 2017 list but over the years they have stayed pretty similar. The EWG website has some great information for any of you that like doing more research.

The Dirty Dozen
Produce that you should be buying organic.
Dirty Dozen- What the EWG does is analyzed pesticide residue from the US Dept. of Agriculture and come up with the rankings. Basically the premise of the dirty dozen is these fruits and veggies rank the highest in concentration of pesticides. I know is is hard to go all organic but you can limit your exposure to these pesticides by making smarter choices at the grocery store by buying these 12 food organic. For the full list of foods HERE! Sadly, strawberries tested the highest so make sure you are buying organic strawberries. Even better this spring plant your own strawberries in your garden!

The CLean 15
Produce that you don't have to buy organic.
Clean 15-
If you can’t buy organic, then the EWG can still help you make better choices via their Clean Fifteen, This is the list of produce that is least likely to contain pesticide residues. The top five on this year’s list are sweet corn, avocados, pineapple, cabbage, and onions. I know I was happy to see avocado because avocado have been one of Leo's favorite foods since he was a baby.
Happy 2018 and let's all make better food choices together!
Cheers,
Jess
