So I've been DYING to try the velvet look. I actually ordered two different velvet dresses and a skirt cause I was so eager to try this trend. My husband said I didn't need 3 velvet items so I sent the other two back and kept this tunic dress. I love the texture, the movement, and the look. I hope this velvet trend says popular a little while longer because I had so much fun rocking it!
I needed this dress to be a little fancier than a normal tunic because I was wearing it to a March of Dimes evening fundraiser. I added a few elements that took it from a loose tunic to a more fitted dress. The first thing I did was add a metallic belt, that helped create a more slimming look. I also paired this dress with the most comfortable but tall platform Jessica Simpson booties. She sure knows how to make comfortable heels at a great price. I also jazzed the dress up with these statement earrings. I got these on sale from Anthropologie a few years back. They are pretty heavy but I do love the "pop" they give to this outfit.
It was a little chilly so I added a faux leather jacket from Zara. It is more of a moto style jaceet and it paired well with the platform booties. Since having a baby I barely ever break out any purses or clutches since my diaper bag is attached to me at all times. So I used this simple black fold over clutch from Express. I have had this clutch for a few years and when in doubt I always use it. It's a good one to have in your closet cause it will go with anything.
