This post is inspired by my mother so I felt like this picture was fitting. I swear every time I call my Mom to ask for advice, her advice always includes something about lemons. Here is how the conversation goes, "Mom, there is a stain on Leo's onesie but I can't bleach it what should I do". My mom replies, "put a lemon on it." "Hey Mom, I still have that dark line running down my stomach from pregnancy." My mom, "put lemon on it. "Mom, I have a sore throat." My mom, "gargle with lemon water." You see her answer for everything is lemons. So in honor of her I decided to put together all the uses I use lemons around my house for!
Whiten Laundry – If you have a shirt that isn't all white you can' bleach it just add some lemon juice to the stain and it'll whiten it right up. I also use lemon juice with my white towels to brighten them.
Freshen Your Veggies – If your lettuce or herbs have gone limp, you can liven them up with lemon juice. Add the juice from half of a lemon to a bowl of cold water. Place your lettuces in the bowl and refrigerate for an hour. Dry the leaves before serving.
Preserve Produce – To keep avocado and apples from browning after being cut or peeled, I simply squeeze some lemon onto them to keep them from browning. Also if you are making guacamole be sure to squeeze some lemon juice to your recipe to keep the color green and not brown.
Sore Throat – Simple... just gargling some lemon juice.
Pimples and Dark Spots – Get rid of pimples naturally by dabbing lemon juice on them several times per day. I also use Lemon juice to lighten dark spots from scars or skin damage.
Clean the Microwave – If your microwave is starting to smell, fill a microwave safe bowl with the juice from one lemon and a 1/2 cup of hot water. Microwave on high for 5 minutes, then wipe down the microwave when it’s done. It will come out smelling fresh.
Lemon Water- There are a ton of benefits from lemon water. My mom drinks hers warm, but I add some into my water bottle before a workout.
Clean Hands- Do you have something on your hands you can't get off, or are your hands smelling gross, like fish. Simple wash them with some lemon.
Garbage Disposal- Clean your garbage disposal by cutting up a lemon and let the disposal chew on that.
Hard Water Stains- Cut a lemon in half and rub it over faucets, granite, or even plastic and watch that residue disappear.
Get Rid of Pests- Place small slices of lemon peel where the ants or pests are coming in. For some reason the ants don't like it and it will stop them from coming in.
Stinky Trash Can- Throw a few lemon peels in the bottom of the can. This will also help absorb odors and keep things smelling fresh.
Sickness Cure- This was my go to during a few weeks of my pregnancy. I would suck on a slice of lemon to help me from feeling nauseous. Just don't do it too often it isn't good for your teeth.
