So one of my most read blog post is always my book recommendations. I don't think I have a great eye for picking out books I think it is more that I go through about 50 a year so I have a quite a few to sort through before I recommend them. I read or listen to a book a week sometimes more. I know it seems a little extreme but I do enjoy it. I listen to about 90% of them it is just easier for me to get through them taster, plus I listen to than an hour before bed most nights. I also listen to them sped up. Jay thinks it is crazy but once I get into a rhythm the faster speed doesn't bother me. So I am going to tell you guys my top books from the past year!
Book List-
The Great Alone-Kristin Hannah
*This probably was my favorite book I've read in the last year. It is set in Alaska and it takes you on a wild ride!
Where the Crawdads Sing- Delia Owens
*this ties with The Great Alone for favorite book. But I love this one, it is a bit sad but I just fell in love with the lead character and her life was so interesting.
Send Down the Rain- Charles Martin
*this book took me on a roller coaster, my Father in Law recommended it to me and at first I was like did you just recommend a love story. But it surely wasn't there was a tale of a drug lord, a vietnam vet, a failed business etc etc... there were so many emotions and layers to each character. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE! It is probably my #3 favorite book of the year.
Sometimes I Lie- Alice Feeney
*A gf recommended this book to me and I finished it in a a few days then promptly sent her a text saying.... OMG did you think it was _______ or _______. Such a good fun read.
Bear Town- Fredrik Backman
*this is about a hockey town and a rape that happens in this hockey town and how the town responds. It is VERY interesting.... we discuss this in book club in a few months and I CAN NOT WAIT!!
Missoula- Jon Krakauer
*ok not a beach read! If you have read Jon Krakauer you know how he investigates a story. He looks into the rape culture on college campus. It was a book club read and it was very interesting to discuss and if you have kids high school age this would be a great one to read.
Crazy Rich Asians- Kevin Kwan
I'm sure you have seen the movie, but the books are amazing. I think I finished them all in 2 weeks.
The Perfect Couple- Elin Hilderbrand
Plot- A wedding on Nantucket is canceled when the bride finds her maid of honor floating facedown in the Atlantic on the morning of the big day. Perfect summer read!
When Life Gives you Lululemons- Lauren Weisberger
Beach read plain and simple
The Cuban Affair - Nelson DeMille
The Cuban Affair tells the thrilling story of veteran Daniel “Mac” McCormick and his adventure into the heart of Cuba to stand up to Cuban authority, find some treasure for himself, and eventually fall in love with Sara Ortega, his Cuban American teammate on this dangerous journey.
The Wife Between Us- Sarah Pekkanen · Greer Hendricks
Such a good twist and turns book. Vanessa Thompson is brokenhearted in the aftermath of her divorce from the rich, attractive Richard Thompson. She tracks her husband’s new girlfriend obsessively and is devastated when she discovers that the two are engaged to be married.
The Operator- Robert O'Neill
So this book has been around for awhile but it is the story of the navy seal that shot Bin Laden. But what I found fascinating was the training that Navy Seals go through and their lives. It was so insightful to read.
What Alice Forgot- Liane Moriarty
*What Alice Forgot follows the life of Alice, a 39-year-old woman who wakes up on the floor of her gym after falling off a spinning bike. Alice awakes in 2008, convinced it’s 10 years earlier. She believes she’s pregnant with her first child and happily married as she was back in 1998.
All We Ever Wanted- Emily Giffin
Nina Browning is living the good life after marrying into Nashville’s elite, her son, Finch, is bound for Princeton. Then one devastating photo changes everything. Finch snaps a picture of a girl at school passed out at a party, adds a provocative caption, and sends it to a few friends. The photo spreads like wildfire, and before long an already divided community is buzzing with scandal and assigning blame.
Currently On My List-
The Last Romantics
The Nightingale
The Things we Keep
That my friends is my top recommendations of the books I've read this past year. Here is my blog post from last year of my favorite books. Check it out HERE!
Have a great week,
