My first blog post of 2017 was all about how I wanted to share a few different ways to make your life easier or better. I've posted about making life simpler by meal planning, then how to stay healthy during flu season, and then what to do if you get the cold of flu. But today I'm sharing something that will help the relationships in your life. It is something so simple, it's called UNPLUGGING your TV, turning off your phone and computer and simply enjoying family time!
In 2017, Jay and I are trying to unplug at night. We have the TV on most of the day and even though it's usually tuned to the news I catch myself watching it way more than I'd like to. Then when Leo finally goes to bed Jay and I often find ourselves in our old habits, watching TV with our computers in our laps and our cell phones by our side. I started to see these habits creep into our day time routine as well. I also started noticing Leo constantly reaching for our phones, computers, and tv remotes. I decided that was enough. I needed to make a conscious effort to be more unplugged with my family than hooked on technology.
I'm lucky enough to be a stay at home Mom, but I often take it for granted. I think I need to do dishes or another load of laundry vs sitting down and playing with my son. Or worst I find myself checking my phone while sitting on the floor playing with my child. I hate that I'm so addicted to technology. So I try twice a day to unplug. Every morning after my coffee I turn the TV off go into the play room with Leo and we PLAY and READ! And every night after dinner for an hour we PLAY before bedtime! We don't watch TV, I don't check my phone or my computer and I try to devote all my attention to Leo. It is hard sometimes to let dishes be dirty in the sink, especially when I know once he goes to bed it just another task I have to tackle. But I remind myself that he is only LITTLE ONCE! There is time for dishes, laundry, cleaning during nap time and when he goes to bed. But the most important thing I can do is simply unplug and enjoy my time with our baby boy. There is nothing that brings me more joy than my Husband and I getting our little guy to crack up and simple. I continually wish I could bottle those moments up FOREVER AND EVER!
I know people struggle with activities to do. We thankfully have a swing set in our yard and when it's not freezing and snowing we spend quite a lot of time outside. Here are few other activities I put together for you to try. Also check Pinterest they have a million suggestions.
So I challenge you to turn the TV off and put your phone away and just enjoy your time with your little family! I can't believe my little guy is almost 1 and over the weekend he took his first steps. Just seems like yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital.
Wednesday I plan to do a quick blog post about unplugging and enjoying time with your spouse. Something that is equally as important.
Cheers,
Jess
